It started as a joke, survived inflation, and became a mindset.
The Billion Dollar Technician isn’t about money — it’s about knowing your trade, doing it right, and still laughing at the job now and then.
My Story
When the nickname Billion Dollar Technician first popped up, it wasn’t meant to be serious.
Originally, it was Million Dollar Technician — but with inflation and all, the number had to go up.
It started as a running joke about the kind of guy who’d roll up in a van covered in chrome, flash a gold watch, smoke a big cigar, and never touch a tool.
That’s not me.
I’m the guy who actually opens the panel, finds the short, fixes it, and then probably makes a sarcastic comment about whoever wired it last.
Over the years I’ve worked on systems worth more than most folks care to count — fire alarms, electronics, and enough wiring to circle the block a few times. I may enjoy the occasional cigar and bourbon, but I actually roll up my sleeves and do the work.
On this site you’ll find:
- Real lessons — fire alarm and electrical work explained the technician’s way.
- Some laughs — because without humor, this trade will wear you down fast.
- Stories from the field — the kind you won’t get in a classroom.
The nickname may have started as a joke, but it stuck.
And now, it’s something to live up to — not for me alone, but for every technician who takes pride in doing it right.
